Florence SC to Host 2017 National Horseshoe Tour AND 2018 World Tour
Venue expansion construction is now underway at the Florence Civic Center and management continues to attract new bookings. Soon after announcing the expansion progress, venue officials recruited the 2018 NHPA (National Horseshoe Pitchers Association) World Tournament, sometimes referred to as the “Super Bowl of Horseshoes”. And the ringers don’t stop there; the venue has recently confirmed that Florence will now also host the 2017 Horseshoe Tour National Championship, another NHPA sanctioned tournament, this coming November.
The Horseshoe Tour National Championships scheduled for November 18-19, 2017 will be a full facility operation, with tournament play, concessions, player reception, welcome ceremony and meetings all being held on-site at the Civic Center. “This will not only be a ‘test run’ for our building and staff but for the Pee Dee area as we all get ready for the 2018 NHPA World Tournament” says Paul Beard, Assistant General Manager at the SMG-managed Florence Civic Center. “Both of these events will help put Florence in the national spotlight for sports” continues Beard. Prior to this event the Civic Center staff will be constructing 16 NHPA sanctioned portable clay horseshoe courts inside the facility.
In a national announcement earlier this year, Bobby White, Horseshoe Tour President stated, “We’ve been patiently waiting for the last five years and it seems the heavens are finally lining up for us, as we’ve found a truly marvelous event that we can proudly call the ‘2017 Horseshoe Tour National Championships.’ The venue is the Civic Center in Florence, South Carolina, better known to us in the horseshoe world as the site of the upcoming 2018 NHPA World Horseshoe Championships.”
The 2017 championship tournament already has teams and individuals ready to register from all across the USA and Canada. In recent years, this sport has become a full-fledged family friendly event with competitors of all ages and skill levels. The many family friendly activities and accommodations in and around the Florence area is one of the many reasons why Florence was chosen as the site for both of these events. “There are endless hotels and restaurants in close proximity to the tournament site and that doesn’t even begin to describe the beauty of Florence and surrounding areas. There just couldn’t be a better host site than Florence. Not only is the facility as good as it gets, but the prize fund they’ve offered for this event is completely over the top. When you combine that with the huge entry we’re expecting, it should pay completely off the charts at all levels,” said the Horseshoe Tour President.
Nick Hooker, Director of Marketing for SMG Florence Civic Center said, “Now we’ve just broken ground on the expansion and we’re just seeing the tip of the iceberg…there’s so much potential here to attract regional and national events, we’re anxious to keep Florence growing.”
